Illustration 1: Character Design

For my Illustration 1 class our first assignment was to create a character.  There were a few parameters involving WWI-era pilots and grey-scale, but besides that it was pretty open to interpretation.  This is my Sugar Glider (flying squirrel-- get it?) pilot.  I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and everyone in my class kept exclaiming how adorable he is. Success! :)

And here are some other ideas I came up with before I decided to go with the design above. I think I may play around with some of these as well.

Advanced Figure Drawing: Final Week

I left for home for Christmas break before I had a chance to upload the final week's worth of figure drawing for last semester.  We delved into drapery studies which was difficult but interesting.  I also am posting some of our out-of-class sketchbook assignments. So before I start posting figure drawing stuff for this new semester, here are the last few drawings.  Enjoy!

For the final exam my teacher had us select a couple of best pieces from the semester and hang them up on the wall.  He then returned to us the very first drawing we did in this class (which he had taken that day and kept the whole semester) and put it up next to the other pieces.  I remember being so proud of my first drawing when I turned it in and, while there are still really good things about it (such as proportions), I feel like I have really progressed (especially in terms of line quality and shadow).  It was great to be able to see them side by side and actually see physical proof of how much I have learned from this class.
